AN INDIGENOUS GRASSROOTS CONFERENCE INCREASING KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL CANADIANS!

“Children are our Sacred Bundle” conference will have speakers who share an Indigenous worldview, and examine history and current trends affecting Indigenous families today. This conference will utilize a unique grassroots solutions based approach. The solutions come from collaborative experiential group exercises which build on the knowledge shared by the many different speakers whom represent Alberta and British Columbia.

The attendees will also receive traditional and current information from Indigenous Professionals working within Indigenous communities today.

Wisdom Keepers Panel

This conference will provide historical information from various Knowledge Keepers (Indigenous elders, ceremonialists and professionals) from Alberta and British Columbia in a panel discussion format.

Experiential Exercise

This unique conference will conduct an experiential exercise that allows the group to work together in developing solutions that can enhance current programs and policies that pertain to Indigenous people. This concept helps create a grassroots process that empowers each individual attending the conference.

Children are our Sacred Bundle falls in alignment with the following recommendations:

* Requiring that all child-welfare decision makers consider the impact of the residential school experience on children and their caregivers.

* We call upon the federal, provincial, territorial, and Aboriginal governments to develop culturally appropriate parenting programs for Aboriginal families.

* We call upon the federal, provincial, territorial, and Aboriginal governments to develop culturally appropriate early childhood education programs for Aboriginal families.

* We call upon the Federation of Law Societies of Canada to ensure that lawyers receive appropriate cultural competency training.
